What A Great Week

After over a month of snow and rain finally the sky’s opened up here in Pemberton and the crew was able to get after it. The crew was Dana, Callum, our filmer Rick, still photog Mark Fisher, HD guy ED, myself and a couple other bro’s Chedder and Treat. The first couple of days was full on leaving in the dark and going all day in the deep snow, digging out sleds, hiking lines and then returning in the dark. Needless to say we were quickly getting exhausted but the motivation to crush it kept us going strong. After two days Callum had to leave for a heli trip in Stewart and then two days after that Dana had to leave for Italy leaving only myself to keep the big production crew busy. The wind had come in strong hammering the snow and limiting us to only a couple of zones where the snow had stayed good enough to still send it. I was able to keep the crew busy for the rest of the high pressure thanks to my friends Chedder and Treat for helping shuttle me around and keeping me motivated by charging lines with me.

After the strait line we couldn’t find any more good snow. Being close to Bralorne we decided to go to the pub for well deserved burgers and beer. This shot is me after just pulling into town on my sled.

TNF product testing trip goes off

Every year TNF does a product testing trip with some of the design team and a few of the athletes. It’s always a great time and this year was no exception. We found ourselves in northern Idaho at Peak Adventures cat skiing. Sleeping in a yurt and skiing tons of untracked vert made for the perfect environment to test the new gear and immediately give our feedback to the design team. Here are some shots of the trip and the crew.

We managed to get all of the gear into the rental cars, the only question now was where do we sit.

Jim Zellers on Skis? Sage and Zellers decided to trade gear for a couple of runs and they both crushed it. Zellers said that he hasn’t skied in like a hundred years so he thought that Sage’s rockered skis were a lot of fun, I even think he said that it felt like snowboarding.

I’M ON A BOAT

On the last night of The North Face athlete summit we got to go cruse around the bay in San Fran on a huge three story boat. A buffet dinner and a epic DJ dance party made us all feel like we were big pimpin.

This boat was so sick. DJ party was on the lower level dinner was on the mid level and the top deck was a great place to to hang and enjoy the crazy views.

On the way back to the hotel in this huge limo bus we decided to make a quick stop at In-N-Out Burger to order 40 cheese burgers. Mmmmm it was so good.

Winter in Whistler starts off with record snow and epic times

This is the best start to a winter that I have ever had. I can’t believe that it’s only early December cause it feels like February. We had 6 meters of snow in November and for the last two weeks it’s been blue bird witch has made for epic sunset runs day after day. I already found myself shooting photo’s with Adam Clark before December even started. I feel so lucky to live where I do. Here are some photo’s from the last couple of weeks.

On November 9th two years ago one of my best friends that I knew since birth passed away. I decided that on the 9th this year it was time to let some of his ashes free. This shot is me about to let him free.

Fall Adventures and Premiere season

Fall is always a crazy time full of movie premiere’s and team meeting’s. It makes for a ton of traveling and a bunch of good times.

Summer time good times

After recovering from my broken ankle summer finally began for me in early July. Since then I have truly made the most of my short summer time. Heli biking, skydiving, and just all out good times. Oh ya my wife Alex and I bought a house in Pemberton. I worked carpentry and built a house somewhere in there as well.
Man it’s good to be healthy.
Here are my friends Travis, Alison and Beth navigating a beaver dam on the river of golden dreams. Such a fun way to spend a Sunday.

This is me dropping into a trail called Tower Of Power. This trail is one of my favorites cause is mainly all granite and it reminds me of riding in Moab.

This is my buddy Travis on a trail called PHD and believe me this photo does not do this line justice at all. This rock roll goes almost vert and the transition in the run out is dead flat.

Heli Biking is one of the sickest things I did this summer. This is me unloading the bikes from the long line with Whistler/Blackcomb as a back drop. The ride was almost 5000ft of vert and took like three hours. EPIC day.

Spring Time Ups And Downs

After a kick ass winter I was ready to enjoy a summer of surfing, biking, and skydiving.
The spring started off to good to be true. My girl Alex and I did a surf trip to Puerto Rico. We got some good surf but we also had to find other things to do when the waves were flat. Snorkeling and exploring the Island was a lot of fun and if we go back we now know where all the good surf spots are.
After the surf trip we came home to Whistler and ski season was still going strong. I got a heli day in with Kye, Ingrid, and Matty Richard. The day kicked ass however the snow was frozen solid and the winds were to strong to land the heli anywhere really cool. Later that week the snow did get good again though and my days consisted of skiing pow up high in the morning and mountain biking in the afternoon. I love this time of year in Whistler for this reason, epic days of skiing and biking it doesn’t get any better than that. Actually it does when you throw skydiving into the mix and I had a great week of jumping out of planes, skiing, and mountain biking. I started to think that life couldn’t get any better when one night while out biking with my crew I went to big off a kicker and broke my ankle.
The next six weeks were down right depressing but I made the best of it by hanging out at the lake and doing other fun stuff like shooting guns. Today is the first day I have been able to walk with out my cast and my ankle feels great. I’m so stoaked to be mobil again and well on my way to a full recovery. Soon I will be able to bike and skydive again, I can’t wait.

While exploring the Island of Puerto Rico we came across this cool blow hole. The waves would pound into this hole and water would shoot like 50ft into the air.

The snorkeling in Puerto Rico is really good and this Sting Ray was just one of the crazy creatures I saw.

This spot was where we had some of our best surf of the trip.

Ingrid’s always stoked to be in the mountains and even though the skiing wasn’t good she didn’t care.

After skiing pow in the morning there is no better way to spend the afternoon then biking with my girl and our crew of friends.

This is the first feature on this trail and it’s a great warm up for things to come.

Running into a family of bears in the Whistler area is very common. This momma had three cubs.

Ready to hop in the plane for my first jump of the year. The best part about not jumping in 7 months is I get that first jump adrenalin all over again, I love that feeling.

Just after I broke my ankle and feeling depressed that my kick ass spring was over.

Hanging out at the lake with my dog was one of the best ways for me to get out of the house and keep from going stir crazy.

Turpin was helping me stay sane by taking me out shooting. I love to shot guns.

A DREAM COME TRUE.

The dream of one day getting to shred Alaska with blower, stable pow and blue sky’s has finally came true for me. The last two days of my trip it were absolutely epic. We did have three days of sun but after the big storm the first blue day was all about safety. Sarge (our guide) dug 7 different snow pits on various aspects and concluded that we needed to give the snow a day to settle before we could get after some big lines. On the second day the snow had settled out so we were able to get on some good warm up lines in the morning. With the snow feeling good we moved on to an area that we have wanted to hit since very early in the trip. That session was one of the best I have ever had. The snow was so deep and so light that it was really hard to see and skiing big lines when you can’t see is a challenge to say the least. Everyone on the crew crushed though and I was able to get three good lines down the face. The final day was also an epic one. We got a couple of great lines in the morning and in the afternoon Roner sent a sick ski base. I have posted a video of that ski base below. Ya! Roner you crushed it bud. Leaving AK safe and sound is enough to put a smile on your face but leaving safe after begging some deep pow lines, that’s just all time.
